MARHIS will achieve the proposed objectives thanks to its singular characteristics offering the possibility of an integrated physical and numerical modeling necessary to support new developments from conceptual design to final validation. Moreover, the experimental management system implemented in the MARHIS provides this infrastructure of a singularity and unique ability that will serve as a tractor of researchers and national and international companies. This uniqueness is combined with one of the largest research groups in ocean and coastal engineering in the world, including more than 40 PhDs in coastal or offshore engineering. To establish an ICTS in the field of coastal and offshore engineering that allows any study, design, operation or construction project in the coast or at the open sea with the maximum guarantee of functionality, stability, reliability, security and sustainability attainable, all supported with the best possible scientific-technological knowledge and making use of the most important and advanced tools and methodologies.

To make the MARHIS a national and international reference center in the field of research and technological transfer in the marine field.
To nationally and internationally promote the education and training in coastal and offshore engineering, either for technicians, managers or researchers.
To use the ICTS as the basis for the creation of technological initiatives aimed to reduce the Spanish deficit in the field of offshore and coastal engineering. This objective will be achieved by the development of methodologies, tools, patents, services, creation of spin-offs, etc., that make our companies more competitive in the global market.

To advise Spanish companies to improve their competitiveness abroad or to public administration in the implementation of methodologies, standardization, etc. that contribute to improving the safety, reliability and sustainability of actions on the coast and sea. Moreover
To advise public administrations in the implementation of recommendations, policies or directives associated with the marine environment.
To contribute to improving the competitiveness of Spain and Europe in the field of coastal and offshore engineering. Serve as coordinator of other R+D initiatives being developed in this field (reference center for wave energy technologies; observatory of integrated management of coastal zones, etc. )
